What is Curriculum?
The Curriculum attached to this site shows the outline and pathway for educators to follow and is the guide for what is essential for teaching and learning. Our various curricula ensure that every student has access to rigorous academic experiences. The template we use organizes the content, the timing of units in a calendar format, the materials used, organization of assessments, and pacing as well as other considerations and has been created in such a way as to align with the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). This is done in order to enhance student learning and facilitate instruction.
Curriculum is a standards-based (Common Core State Standards, Next Generation Science Standards for example) sequence of planned experiences where students practice and achieve proficiencies in content and applied learning skills. Curriculum refers to information taught to students.
Instruction refers to teaching methods used to convey that information.

This section (Curriculum and Instruction) of the Canterbury Public Schools Website has been created to strengthen the bond between school and families by providing details about our academic programming across the district.
The literacy section outlines the expedition of our youngest students in reading and literacy to the culmination of their school experience in Grade 8. It follows the goals of the Common Core State Standards for Reading and Writing. It will depict curricular units of learning, goals, knowledge to be gained and experiences designed to help get them to master the cumulative goals for each grade.
